Protect PDF adds a password to your document so that only people who know the password can open it. Use it for contracts, personal records or any file that you send by email or share through a chat app.
You choose the password, and the tool returns a new PDF that asks for it when someone tries to open the file. Your original file remains unprotected on your device. The upload limit is 20 MB.
How to use Protect PDF
- Click the upload field and choose your PDF (up to 20 MB).
- Type the password you want to use.
- Press Generate and wait a few seconds.
- Download the protected PDF and try opening it to confirm it asks for the password.
Tips for better results
- Use a long password that mixes words, numbers and symbols, and share it through a different channel than the file itself.
- Store the password somewhere safe. We do not offer password recovery.
- Keep an unprotected copy of the original so you can always make a new protected version.
